枫下茶话 / 政治经济 / 大家觉得county这个词翻译成“县”是不是有问题?我发现这里的county包括city or town,而国内的是市包括县。大致的做法是比较偏远的地方设立县,当这个地方越来越发达,这个县就变成region。比方说,Halton region(现在包括:Burlington, Oakville, Milton and Halton Hills)原来就叫Halton county。还有就是Peel region,原来就叫Peel county。再发展到Metropolitan时,甚至从Region中脱离出去(抑或从county直接脱离出去成为Metropolitan),Toronto就是这个情况。而这和国内的县市的行政设置,完全是不同的。在国内市在县上面一级,而这里的县和市是对等的,上面都是省政府。

中文不是世界语言的母集,有些外语词没有精确汉语词对应,这么简单的事, sigh........

从上面分析,我想这个county是否翻译成中国历史使用的“郡”更合适?中国历史上的“郡”的意思倒和这个county很接近,region翻译成“地区”和国内原来的“地区”的概念很接近。town/city翻印成“县”或“城”倒是很接近。而Metropolitan可以翻译成“市”,大家觉得如何?

日本的县你准备翻译成什么?可是中央政府直接管的,人家可是地地道道的写做县。

日本的情况我不知道,我知道这里(至少加拿大)在英译中过程中,产生了歧义。另外,日语借用汉字,但字意不同的情况是相当多的,它写成县,不等于它和今天汉语中的县是一个意思。

通用的翻译是县,但需要读者对加拿大的政府结构有些了解,这不是译者的责任。比如加拿大的市长和中国的市长的责任不同,你还能找个词不成,要这样,没法翻译了。person也别翻译成人了,头发颜色不一样。

日文的县, 在中文可能和"郡"对应更合适. county 也一样, 我认为是郡. 皮尔郡的首长, 按道理就应该译成皮尔郡太守啦.

这里市下面的Ward,是不是可以翻译成乡镇,Community是不是可以翻译成村?。。。

Ward是选举用的吧, 要译成中文, 估计要请台湾的同学们译啦.俺一点都没概念啦. Community可能不是一个行政区域的概念, 社区嘛. 俺们每周都上某社区中心排练滴....
