枫下茶话 / 美国话题 / Those filed tax on both sides of the border please help on this: Assumining you earned 80K in US, and paid 14K tax to US,and assuming when you file Canadian return, this income should pay 18K tax to Canada. In this case, do you just pay the 4K difference to Canada? or the CRA would give you a foreign tax credit (about 2.5K), but you would have to pay 15.5K?

I think it depends on your situation. Nornally you will have to pay more than the 4K (18K-14K) because deductibles are different.

Generally, you need to pay difference but it depends as previous post said.
