No. You can transfer to any broker in the US. It is a transfer so you don't have to sell them. Most of the brokers do charge some fee though. But Firstrade is going to reimberse you if there is any fee incurred.

Thanks. 1) TD said I can trade while residing the US but will be taxed as non-resident - does it mean higher tax rate? 2) If move investments to the US as your guys suggested, how about investments in Canadian dollars, e.g. stocks, mutual funds?
