枫下茶话 / 美国话题 / 搬家费用报税问题:雇主报销或支付的搬家费用一部分是必须算作当年收入,一部分可不作为当年收入 (Qualified Moving Expense)。我发现这是有条件的,即 你必须为该雇主工作39个星期以上,即10个月。请问再来美国工作的同胞们1, 是否完全按照这个规定填报美国税表,也就是如果你不满足工作39个星期的条件,那么所有雇主给你的费用全部视为你当年的总收入?那么你就会失去很多钱?
2, 有无变通方法,比如,转移到下一年再去把这个收入。是否有此先例?
第一次在美国报税,第一次遇到搬家费用还算当年收入的问题。
个人初步认为,将雇主付给的搬家费用视为雇员个人收入是不合理的。请高见。

Your understanding is wrong. 39 weeks requirement is applied on the first 12 months after the move. It is used to prevent someone to claim moving expenses not work related (for example, go to a college). The moving expense is stated in your W-2.If the Employer moves you, and pay the expense. The moving expense won't be treated as income at all.

我是去年工作不到十个月,还没有开始着手报税,不是很清楚。但我记得公司给的offer当时有一条是说最多cover多少税。我的理解这条就是指算收入的那部分,比如sign-in bonus什么的,公司可以cover税,但如果你的收入特别高,超过这个比例,公司就不管了。

you can get money back for your taxable relocation expenses from your income tax return 2007for 39个星期 work..that requirement is just related your company policy (some need 1 even 2 years, my company no any this requirement). that means you just need to pay relocation expense back to your company when you leave before that time. so you don't need worry about it and just get them back now
