General role is that there are no investment accounts in Canada. So checking account is fine. But saving account may be problem.Non-resident account will withhold 25% of flat tax rate for interests.

my financial advisor told me it depends on the state u reside. usually u can hv RRSp acct in Canada. but some states like arizona doesn allow u hv so, of course, i dont know how they would know it though.

Yes, TD allow you to trade. But not allow you on-line trade. You can call TD, and they verify you identity first, then you can ask them to trade for you.

TD allows you to trade. But TD will report the RRSP gain to IRA. I do not know if the gain is taxable or not. It may depends on ..., who knows?

I asked TD, they said that you can only trade mutual funds, can't trade stocks. It depends which state you are in. They said that capital gain of RRSP is not taxable until you withdraw it.
