For IT guys, diploma and/or degrees are not so important. The most important is that you have some true skills. It may take you a few years to get a bachelor degree.. Can you afford?

the life is hard, but...i suppose i could earn the expense of studing and living in a university with my own hands, though it is hard. but do you think it's necessary to study IT form the basic things , spend 3-4 years in going through the course one by one? is it better that one just study java, the most popular and fashionable language in canada presently? thank you

If I tell people how to become a Java or Oracle programmer within one year here, I will mislead peopleI have been exchaning my experiences and lessons with people here. But I cannot tell poeple: do this, do that, you will succeed.
I suggest you talk IT friends around you. They
can speak to you directly. Our communication is constrainted by our communication means---writing. Be sure to seek help from IT friends in your city.
Learning Java is not reading one or two books. You need to communicate with IT friends personally.

Allen, you may master Java basics within 3 monthsHowever, you need more time to get into j2ee. Some Java basics (at the level of Thinking in Java) are not enough for a Java programmer.

I appreciate your example. To migrate to IT fields, however, one needs a period of time and persistent efforts. If your exeriences, your wife played a role of mentor. This helped you a lot. I still can remember the difficulties I have experienced...
I messed up VB tool bar, I asked help from others but they either di't know how to solve the problem or had no patience in helping me. For a beginner, there are a lot of difficulties and frustrations....If anybody wants to join IT gambling, he/she must allow some time. In addition, most people need some guidance at the very beginning.
