千万别又说什莫多伦多中餐馆遍地之类的话, 好像中国人除了吃就没别的了。个人认为, 在这个版上讨论什莫美国好还是这里好已经成了YJ贴了,而且也没意义。来这的人都是一心奔美国去的,谁要觉得守着这儿好,根本就没必要来这个版。

各花入各眼。在Toronto你是本国人,必然有诸多便利之处。对我来说,这里冬天太冷比较郁闷,但东北来的朋友们很习惯,觉得很好。

关于西雅图和微软的描述极不准确!我2个同学美国master刚毕业(06年年初),入门工资都是80k以上。高工资的有的是,只是看你能不能拿到而已。关于消费,没在LA呆过,没法比。从吃住上看,Seattle最多跟toronto持平。

也许你和你周围的人的情况,使你了解所限,不知道你一年美国住在哪里,一年在美国的感想实在没什么说服力,有些甚至是误导,比如说看病,我和你的感觉正好相反,在多伦多到是有被打发的感觉,经常是按APPOINTMENT时间去,需要在外面等医生半个小时或者更长时间,看医生只用几分钟,正是由于看病不用花钱,很多人把看医生当成逛菜市场,想象这种医疗体制会好吗?也许是我周围的情况也不具有代表性,但是我和我周围的朋友经过几年的努力都在十万以上,都是在美国安居乐业,你想一年就SETTLE DOWN,在哪里也不可能吧.对于哪边好的话题,不是简单可以说清楚的,和个人背景,所在城市...都有关系,但是从大方向上说,寻求机会和发展绝对是美国好于加拿大,市场在那里摆着呢,不承认也不行.

I agree with you.But for salary in the States,I don't think many chinese who hold TN or H1B can get USD100k/year for a permanent IT job,except a contractor job .IBut for salary in the States,I have to say some.I don't think many chinese who hold TN or H1B can get USD100K/year for a permanent IT job,except a contract job.I know most chinese people in Canada think most chinese in the States can get USD100k/year.Frankly speaking,it isn't true.

我可是没说所有人都挣那末多。我只是用硅谷和纽约举例子。在这两个地方, 8,9万真是太一般了。很多人到“外州”做IT,挣个5,6万,当然也不少。可是物价,房价比多伦多可低啊。

No. people can still earn 80-100K in "外州". But it's hard to earn 130K in NY and SJ. NY maybe can do it by bonus.

在大烟山顶一个芝加哥的美白和我搭讪的时候说:多伦多是他最想去(定居)的地方。认为加拿大不好的舆论源头是论坛上的负面声音太多,混得好的人一般都只谈风月,懒得和人辩论,办和谐社区嘛。其实去到美国,才知道加拿大的收入也极高...to be continued

对, 这篇说出了我想表达的意思.8-9万在多伦多很难吗? 有很多人都能拿到. 我想说的是, 多伦多的魅力之一就是, 很多人能拿到高薪.
我觉得很多拥美派有点小看多伦多了. 他们(很多是美国过来)经常说美国怎么好. 这对于将要去美国发展的加拿大人存在极大误导.

你说这话就离谱了。做contract 8,9万是少了点。在多伦多做full time有多少8,9万的?我不是搞programming的,可我知道身边什莫senior programmer, 挣7万,甚至不到7万有的是。正因为这边的工作市场竞争激烈,我们才要鼓励大家去美国。把机会腾给为一个4,5万工作的offer苦苦挣扎的人。

太武断了,很多人去美国是因为加拿大不能提供更好的机会, 美国是世界上最活跃的经济体之一, 加拿大小国寡民, 实力上实在是不能比的。用数据说话的话,多伦多这个移民占到48%以上的城市,移民的平均收入垫了底,所以如果说这是一个幸福和谐的城市,那是自欺欺人。

平均生活水平肯定是美国高据估计加拿大平均生活水平只相当于美国的80%。这其实很好理解,加拿大平均收入低于美国,平均物价却不见得比美国低。有些商品,比如汽车在税前都比美国贵17%(按货币汇率比较),税后差价就更大。
其实看看两国间移民流动就知道多数人更希望去哪里:平均一个美国人移民加拿大的同时,有三到四个加拿大人移民美国。
当然加拿大也有比美国好的地方,比如医疗和大学学费。安省近乎免费的医疗所包括的范围都比美国公司一般医疗保险HMO要大。美国这种普通保险很多大病是不包括在内的。
美国大学学费也比加拿大高不少,这就不用说了。
