Definitely you have more opportunity to get interview with strong backgroud. At least it make your resume a little bit impressive at the first glance.But I know a couple of guys from HP, Lucent and Alcatel can't locate a job within six months. It depends on how much your technical background meets the market requirement. Futhermore, you need some luck at the bad time..

It depends on your experience and field. Telecom, E-business are the worst. It's impossible for telecom SW people to find job in Ottawa because 20k experienced people are jobless. If y r RF or Chip guru, maybesome people have moved to other cities. I suppose the others won't be better now.
