I am a diabetics, I need to eat.”

She might use the cash to buy drugs or alcohol. I prefer to buy them a cup of coffee or a sandwich instead of cash.

I was shamefully scared for some reason.Normally, my principle is no free loaders. I believe in "no work, no food". Although I will give money to the street musicians, no matter they are good or not. At least they made an effor to earn the money. And they added some color to the city.

The point is how you can be so sure that she really really IS a 糖尿病人. If she really is, she can get the help from social services. If she tries to avoid social services by begging money in public, there might be something unusual behind her story.

There used to be a professional old female panhandler living on our street. She goes to Toronto everyday to "work".A reporter discovered she was living in a nice house in a good district in our city. After the article about her and how much money she made every day made on the newspaper, she disappeared. Later on someone said they saw her in Montreal, still panhandling.

I remember that report as well. If my memory is right, that lady was called "shaking lady" one of whose hand was shaking while begging. Her house and furniture were upper-scale as broadcast on TV.People were so angry at that disclosure.

But I feel most Canadian panhandlers are very polite. They always said "Thank you or have a nice day", even though they don't get anything from me. It is a Canadian thing, I think.
