First of all, this is my personal opinion; it’s not based on actual experience.Logistically speaking, I believe it’s not realistic for Canadian government to check on every applicant to see their tax status outside Canada. What if this person is not working in US but in other country instead? Is Canada government going to check with all the countries it has tax treaty with just to make sure you didn’t file tax return there? Possible, but not likely. You can decide if that’s a risk worth taking.

Unless I am mistaken, I believe what flyer99 proposed is to (1) file US portion of the tax in US and (2) file Canada portion of the tax in Canada.I am pretty sure he will be in trouble when they find out. But the question is, when he only claim Canada portion of the tax in Canada, there is not way for CRA to find out the other portion automatically.

Heard one saying before "国家是天衣无缝的". I totally agree with it. I believe there are plenty of ways for the government to find out, the only thing is if it wants to...

First of all, I am not suggesting that we should disobey the law. But to think "国家是天衣无缝的" is a little too naive.

I think my point is about same as yours. When I say "国家是天衣无缝的", I mean if they want they can get whatever information they need on ordinary people. Of course the big question is "IF they want"

That is a scary story for sure. But...(1) this is Canada not US, we don't have FBI (2) this is a citizenship application, not a national security issue. I doubt the government will spend the same amount of energy on this. For example, I know if government really wants to, they can follow me around and give me a ticket whenever I am jaywalking. But that doesn't mean I will go around and warn everyone not to jaywalk :)

Agree with your point in the risk is there and it is up to each one to decide if he/she wants to take it or not. BTW, RCMP is about the same as FBI. To certain extand they are both 'police at federal level'.
