Mortgage here is more like 3,4,5 years. If I could take a mortgage now I would take 5 years fixed.The price has increased a lot in past few years. It is very hard to say if it is a good time to buy a condo.

I choosed one yr fixed, and with the option I could switch to longer term fixed (like 3 yr fixed or longer term) any time during my 1 yr period, for example, rates start going up.This way I pay much less, and won't take too much of risk.

If you have the options (1) double up payment (2) 10% or 15% lum sum payment, you could be mortgage free within 9 years even if you choose 25 years amorization.
