SAS is a very large statistical software, but can be used for data processing or serve as simple database as well. Those short term courses offer basic training on data processing skills. As tostatistical analyses, It requires you first have some statistical background.
The most useful skill set for learning BASIC SAS are any kind of programming background (any language) and database knowledge. Yes, it is not a must that you have those background. But if you have never been closer to data processing and programming, you will be the slowest to learn SAS.
