Canada has no room for tax cut. It has to pay off huge debts with huge taxes

I guess you are not talking about Canada because Canada does not charge you 15% sales tax. Please note that GST is only 7% and another 8% is PST which some province like Alberta does not collect.

Have you ever been to US? I just got my first pay check here in Dallas,
tax+medicare+SS only takes up 26% of my gross salary. When I was
in Canada, they took 42% off my income, and I make 50% more here than
in Canada.

but to most average candian family income around 50000$,the income tax is no big diffrence.Even in canda,it's lower income tax than US.I saw this chart in Toronto star before.

yeah, for lower tax bracket, Canada is pretty much the same as US. The culprit for Canadian tax disaster is the surtax, which can bring tax rate for higher income portion to 52%.

Things are a big more expensive than Toronto, about the same in Ottawa, but the houses are nice, big and cheap. They have very nice steaks here in Dallas, but we both miss Toronto's chinese food.Lumlum might come online tonight. Talk to you guys later

I am just curious about your salary. you said you are in the 42% tax bracket in canada, so it means, you earned at least C$120k per year. (Revenue canada has the software to calculate the payroll deduction, 120k/y payroll deduction 40%).if you earn 50% more than you did in canada, your salary now will be around C$180K, let's convert to USD, which is round USD120K. Based on the U.S. payroll calculator in Texas(no state tax), the payroll deduction is around 33%. For those who are interested in the u.s. tax, pls go to www.paycheckcity.com to do some calculation yourselves.

hehe, smart guy. I don't know what's going on.The money deducted from my pay check was lower than I have expected. I was worried that I might need to pay extra tax when filing claims next year. But after I checked the MSNBC Tax calculator, it looks okay, if you make 120k a year and you are single, you pay 30095 as Fed tax, which is about 25%. I think there must be a discrepency between your software and the MSNBCs, here is the link: http://www.msnbc.com/modules/budget/tcalculator.asp.

oh, I know what's going on.I just tried out your calculator. The deduction includes SS and medicare, our company pays for my medicare, and SS is a bit lower, because they have considered the fact that I have paid off all the canadian EI premium for year 2001 in Canada in the past 5 months, that's what makes a difference.

social security is american equivalent of canada's CPP, I don't think two countries will share their retirement planning system even though canada has been pretty much americanized.if your company pay medicare for you, it will be added to your taxable income as a sort of benefit income, which again will boost your tax rate

That's true. But there are two more questions to answer. Who need the tax relief the most and who can creat more opportunities from the tax relief?
