Come on in...

No need to say sorry. You have nothing to sorry about:) ASP (Active Server Page) is a server side technology for dynamic wep pages that contains forms, search engines, etc. It is only supported by Microsoft Internet Information Server. No other web server supports it. In your case, keep it simple. Any web authoring tool mentioned here by me and other friends should work well for you. There are many free ones out there too. Go to <http://download.cnet.com/downloads/0,10151,0-4003353-106-0-1-0,00.html?tag=dir>. It's just a matter of personal preference. To get feedback from customers, you may simply provide them the company's email address. Or, to make it a little dynamic, you can use CGI. CGI can't handle large volumn of traffic, but I think it's decent for your project.

  • 工作学习 / IT技术讨论 / I am thinking of making a homepage, who can tell me what software packeges are the most popular and best ones nowadays? What should I start with? Thank you very much.
    • Frontpage -- easy to handle.
      • How about dreamweaver? Which is better? And what is the difference? Thank you again !
        • I've never use dreamweaver before, so I can't tell you the difference, sorry.
        • I think maybe dreamweaver is good at graphic, better than photoshop, not the same as frontpage.
          • I heard frontpage is a little out-dated, isn't it? Photoshop is for graphics, can it edit homepage?
            • No.
              • Thank you all for your help, I will try to use them. And if I have any more questions, I will ask then. Thank you, and rolia.
    • I personally prefer Dreamweaver...
Both FrontPage 2000 and Dreamweaver 4 are powerful. FrontPage is a little more user friendly. But the reason I pick Dreamweaver is that it never generates garbage HTML code like FrontPage does. Dreamweaver keeps your source code clean and neat. It makes the maintenance of the pages a lot easier. Dreamweaver also has better support for Flash and Fireworks because they are all from Macromedia. After all, it depends on the nature of your project. If the homepage contains only text and GIF/JEPG graphics and has no dynamic content, I would probably write the plain HTML with Notepad. If you are going to write ASP, FrontPage is the better choice.
    • Turbo, sorry, maybe my question is too of a layman's. But what is ASP? I am going to write several pages for a company, mainly to introduce their products and get feedback. In a word, a typical one for a small company.
