IT 入门攻略 (15) 第一份工 (E) 实时案例

本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛俺上篇文章说,中介和合同工是IT找工市场的两个大风景,初学者要留心。下面是俺今天刚收到的 email,既是来自中介,又是合同工,而且是 junior 到 intermidiate,而且是两个。如果想申请,直接跟中介联系。

有关中介,俺想说两句。中介是生意人,他们最关心的是生意。对他们来说两点最重要:第一你要能通过面试;第二你要能胜任工作(如果客户 fire 你,就会影响他的生意)。除了这两点,别的他们都不在乎,比如你简历里掺点水份什么的。非但不在乎,有些中介还帮你掺水。

因为如此,对中介可以坦诚一些。当然你不能说:俺是骗子,你不在乎吧?这种事情,就跟美国军方对同性恋的政策一样: do not ask,do not say。你不说,他也不问,但是他不会去捅破这层窗户纸。

合同工的背景调查可能是中介自己负责。俺有一次背景调查出了点问题,后来中介就赦免了俺。当时俺专门问了一下,那个中介说是他们自己负责。虽然是他们自己负责,但是具体做的是外面的一家公司。这家公司公事公办,所以造假是不容易通过的。

对中介虽然可以坦诚,但是牛还是要吹的,而且要显得有自信心。他越信得过你,对你的 case 就越卖力。

I have these 2 great contract opportunities, for a Major Bank in Downtown Toronto. No banking experiences required, nice to have, however looking for a Junior./Intermediate person for longer term support! (could be years- however they must be competitive, and they do audit us! Its an excellent opportunity for someone; so I wondered if you might know somone who might like this. The JD's are as follows:

Looking to bring an experience junior/intermediate developer on for a one year contract.

【一】 This person would be the primary developer dedicated to the "TimeEntry" application.

The TE app is a Java app utilizing Sybase and has UNIX shell scripts for some processes.

The successful Developer candidate must be proficient in the following:

Multiple operating platforms, such as UNIX, Windows; Programming languages, such as Java, shell scripts, web development; Database technology preferably Sybase and/or Oracle SQL

Development techniques, such as debugging, testing, coding, use of productivity tools; Software packages used (Excel, ClearCase/SVN etc).

They should also demonstrate: Good documentation skills with attention to details, Thoroughness and objectivity, The ability to manage multiple priorities at the same time, An understanding of Project Management Methodologies, The ability to work independently and effectively as an individual contributor and team participant.

Work closely with the TE BA, TE Administrator, and IPM staff to ensure timely resolution of issues and enhancements.

【二】 Second Role: This person would be primarily dedicated to our Atlassian products (JIRA, Confluence).

The successful candidate must be proficient in the following: Developing a strong understanding of the requirements, Building/configuring tooling integrations (mostly J2EE products – will require some Java, HTML / JSP skills; and SOA development ), Testing configurations, Training end users / project staff on the integrated tool set, Developing automated test scripts using Java。

Multiple operating platforms, such as UNIX, Windows; Programming languages, such as Java, shell scripts, web development, Database technology preferably Sybase and/or Oracle SQL。

      • 有一个地方说找不到俺的记录,后来中介让俺把这个地方从调查申请上删掉了。你政审通不过,最着急的是中介:) 当时俺已经上班一个月了。
    • 鼓励造假就不好,现在都是第三方背景调查,一旦上了调查公司黑名单,后果很严重的
      • 调查公司是机器人,我不觉得他们 care,更不可能有黑名单。我感觉多伦多的中介都用同一家调查公司。虽然如此,我从来不赞成在 hard facts 上作假。
        • 不知道你的机器人结论从哪里得到的,虽然我没有在调查公司工作过,但我却和信用调查方面的公司合作过,他们调查的详细程度远超出你的想像,
          你的信用一旦被证明做假,以后都会成为重点调查,而你的信用评分会被压得很低。如果十年前,你还可以TAKE CHANCE, 现在做假很可能毁了你的将来
          • 我是从情理上推测的。信用调查客户希望查出问题,中介主持的背景调查客户不希望查出问题。难道调查公司拿了中介的钱,还要驳人家的面子?即使是公司自己做的背景调查,跟信用调查也有本质区别。在背景上作假的人不一定不是好员工,但是赖帐的人永远是 bad credit。
            • 我经过的公司都是公司找第三方调查,而不是中介找的.背景调查不通过是肯定不会录用的,这个我已经见过几起.劝你还是不要冒险,不值得.有犯罪记录的也可能是好员工,但没有大公司会录用...你这样说就属于误导,甚至可能害人一辈子.
              • 你太小心了。我前面两个都是中介做的,而且都是同一家调查公司。前面的前面可能也是,不记得了。我可以断定调查公司不 care,也不会有黑名单,因为不 make sense。我的背景调查出问题已经不止一次了,所以我有发言权。
                • 现在调查公司基本有数的几个比如BACKCHECK, 有黑名单太正常了, 在我看来,IT MAKE PERFECT SENSE建立调查档案来来CROSS CHECK, 你没有被抓不代表做假没问题,可能只是调查评分达到及格,调查报告不是黑和白,而是可信度报告,最后决定的是雇佣公司,鼓励做假就太过了。。
                  • 好像还真是 backcheck。俺没有鼓励作假。俺也不相信一点小瑕疵会有任何影响。俺做了这么多年 IT 的一个大感慨就是找到一个好人不容易,公司不会因为一些小瑕疵就愿意损失一个好员工。
                    • 你相信没用,公司特别银行对这很严格,当然如果不是太离谱也没问题,我们就过面试很多人,好不容易找到了合适的,OFFER LETTER都准备好了,结果没通过背景调查,只能放弃
                      • 那也只能说明你的银行太死板。我第一次背景调查出问题是华尔街的大银行,他们自己做的,没有通过中介。事后也是不了了之。世界上有形形色色的人,有些人就是分不清轻重缓急。即使是圣人也会有人反对,碰到一两个死板的人不理他不就得了。
                        • 你总是用多年前的经验来套用现在的,所以你写的很多都是过时的
                          • 道理永远也不过时,这个道理就是撑死胆大的,饿死胆小的~~~
              • 说明一下:我说的是合同工,而且不是犯罪记录。
                • 人要看长远,做假很可能的补偿失,特别是现在背景调查越来越成熟专业的情况下。合同工经常要背景调查,更可能毁了自己
                  • 不可能毁了自己。你太谨小慎微了。我这个人最大的优点就是对什么重要,什么不重要极端敏感。背景的瑕疵不重要,你的能力最重要(包括IQ/EQ,硬件/软件)。
                    • 那你又何必做假?你这不是自相矛盾?
                      • 我那个不是作假,是不拘小节。新手背景太弱,装扮一下,我觉得没有什么可怕的。
                        • 那不叫“不拘小节”,那叫“吹牛”: Brag Your Way to Job Interview Success。
      • 那不叫造假, 那叫包装!
    • 中介有些项目是承包的,用什么人,用多少人都是中介说了算,这种情况中介往往也是只关心你的能力,而不在乎你的背景。今天我收到的一个 email 好像就是这种情况。中介说是他们自己的 team,而且以前 TD 的合同工优先,说明很可能是中介承包的 TD 的项目。这个不是初级工。
