The 4th year of ride for jack. I rode 50k among other hundreds participants.

本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛It was cold this morning and wind gust made us feel we were riding in winter. The first 10k was going north and west against north northwest wind. When we going north, we could not pick up speed, had to fight wind off your face. While going west was not much better, I could fell my bike drifting sideway when sudden wind gust made a big push. On the way going, I constantly checked how far was the middle point or rest spot. I knew that I could win the game when I went back.

I was started with turtle group behind cheeta and rabbit groups for I was afraid that i only rode less than 100k this year. But I was able join rabbits after a quater of distance. The big boys had long gone for 125km and 100km anyway.

The way back was easy, most of times, the wind padded on my back and pushed my speed to 28-34km. Until last 5km position, there was a long steep slope, every one switched to lowest gear possible, and some had to off their bike and walk. I managed to the top, but feel both of my legs almost cramped. I had to off my bike and rub my legs for a few minutes before I could paddle again.

It was a ride, not a race. Ride for youth mental illness awareness. The organizer did really good job. Volunteers cheered you up at start, stop and rest spot, police officer directed traffic at main inter sections. And each intersection had sign telling you which way to go.

At the end, we had a BBQ lunch and price draw. The top price was a small frame road bike and was won by a boy of ten who also rode 50km.

Also worth to mention that organizer asked grade 10-12 students submits designs for this years jercey as a part of mental illness awareness program. And the young kid did a great job submitting designs, the winner was a grade 10 student. Very impresive that kids can do amassing jobs as of creativity and commitment.
