Responsibilities
The Unix Administrator will be responsible for performance, tuning and capacity of all development Midrange Unix platforms. They will also be responsible for assisting and guiding development teams in system application design to ensure a high level of performance, functionality and availability is maintained. The Unix Administrator will also be required to assist in related software evaluation and upgrades. Responsibilities include:
Perform system optimization by working with developers, customers and system support personnel.
Investigate and provide methodology, processes and procedures to exploit new features and directions of IMS.
Maintain development, test and training environments as required by business units
Provide optimization recommendations through historical analysis.
Perform required configuration, maintenance & tuning of all system related components including system software and patch management.
Evaluate, provide and maintain software tools to assist internal and external customers.
Aid in problem determination and resolution as required.
Provide Unix and related system support.
Provide on-call assistance as required.
Qualifications
University degree in computer science or equivalent with substantial directly related work experience.
3+ years large shop HP AIX/Sun Solaris system administration and EMC experience
HP-UX Unix administration an asset.
Excellent understanding of NFS, DNS and basic routing concepts for problem determination and resolution
Knowledge of NT, Oracle, Tuxedo and Maestro (Tivoli Workload Scheduler –TWS) considered an asset
Strong organizational, interpersonal, motivational & analytical skills
Effective written & verbal communication skills
Availability for on-call support of Unix system related activities as required
Ability to work effectively on multiple simultaneous tasks within fast paced, “high tech” customer service oriented environment
Ability to complete project tasks in a timely manner
