This is in reference to your request for a status update for an application being processed in the parents and grandparents category.
Throughout 2012, our office will be requesting medical examinations for applications submitted to Beijing prior to November 2011. Once medical examinations have been requested, the average processing time is from 6 to 12 months but can be longer if further background or medical checks are required. Sponsors who wish to know whether or not their parents’ or grandparents’ application will be processed in 2012 should refer to the date of our Acknowledgement of Receipt for the Permanent Resident application, and not the date the Sponsorship application was sent to the Case Processing Centre in Mississauga (Canada).
Parents and grandparents with sponsorship applications in process may still apply for a Temporary Resident Visa to visit Canada while their application is in process. Parents and grandparents may apply for the new “Parent and Grandparent Super Visa,” which will be valid for up to 10 years. The multiple-entry visa will allow an applicant to remain in Canada for up to 24 months at a time without the need for renewal of their status. Parent and Grandparent Super Visa applicants will be required to obtain private Canadian health-care insurance for their stay in Canada.
As soon as we are ready to process your application, we will contact you at the mailing address indicated on your application form.
In order to facilitate processing we would encourage sponsors to pay the Right of Permanent Residence Fee (RPRF) in Canada at the time that medical examinations are requested, if not already paid. Please visit our website for information on how to pay the RPRF:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/5196E5.asp.
Once the RPRF has been paid, please complete the copy of the RPRF receipt with the sponsor’s information and send it to Case Processing Centre Mississauga
(CPC-M) by e-mail to CPCM-EXTCOM@cic.gc.ca. Please visit the following website for more information:
