My daughter came to Canada at the age of 7. She didn't want to come, and the reason is she has lots of friends in China.

Now, she is in grade 2 here at Canada. Although she doesn't like Canada either, but she could find a lot of Chinese friends here (since I live in an apartment in downtown) as well as some foreign kids.

You should worry about your money, job, education, etc, but never worry about your child. S/he will be fine.

However, the education system is defferent than China. No one will tell you or your kid that s/he need to work hard to catch up with the others, but the teacher does have a record sheet for each student. As a parent, you'll have to push your kid to read/write English, learn math, etc. It's your responsiblity, more than China.

For English, I always said to my wife why I could not find any improvement on my daughter's English during the first months. But 3 months later, I found she could understand and speak a lot. Now, she could sometimes correct my pronunciation.

In one word, don't worry about your kid! And, good luck.

    • 不用着急!小孩的适应能力是很强的。他会很快喜欢这里宽松的学习环境。

      • who is foreign?
      • Thank you for your reply. Your experience is useful for us.
    • 我回来晚了,非常高兴有这么多孩子家长聚在这里!希望我们的孩子有机会成为朋友!
      帖子贴完后就跑到上海那边出差,然后又一家人去了新马港一游,回来已经半个月过去了。本人一向孤陋寡闻,此次出去不仅小女长了见识,本人也感触颇深,收获如下:
      1女儿说外国比中国好,看来去加拿大读书的思想工作要好做了;
      2自己在中国挣的钱还是太少,每次买东西不仅看价钱还总是忍不住乘以汇率,什么时候可以扬眉吐气?

      我们计划9月到多论多,女儿七岁会弹电子琴,正学习小提琴,文静可爱,在多市寻找玩伴最好能讲中英文,我们希望她能顺利度过在加拿大的第一个学习年度。
      • Welcome to Canada!
        • bloor, 你在Toronto吗?如果是就好了,9月份到加拿大后很想同您联系,不知愿意否,我们都有一个同龄的孩子。
