When you saw something that discredits Chinese, what have you done?

I agree with the author in that whenever you see something that discredits Chinese, don't haste to disassociate yourself with it (turning your head away is one way, claiming you are no longer Chinese is another); instead, do something that reflects positively on Chinese. Although I don't have too much sympathy for that mayor, I think this article provided another angle at looking at this: instead of accusing this kind of "uncivilized" acts afterwards, what should we do if we were standing beside? I admire what the author did for those old couples, he didn't feel superior and ashamed because he is better educated and know the western etiquettes. In fact a lot of Chinese people here, even refugees, pay a lot of attention to their manners when they are in public places. They probably get more help from Canadians than from the lucky few educated cuontrymen like us. Of course obnoxious FB officials travelling abroad is another story.
