本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛Basement renovation: the contractor (a formal registered company) told us if we want to save 13% tax, we have to pay 100% in cash, no contract, no hand writing receipts…
I am quite confused:
1. The 13% should only apply for the material portion. Service or labor fee is only subject to GST (5%), isn’t it?
2. If he doesn’t want to give us the original contract, at least we should have copy showing all the project details…
3. If no formal receipts provided, at least the he should write us a personal receipt showing he received the money, isn’t he?
4. No contract, no receipt, even without a piece of paper, what happened if any dispute during the project or within the warranty period?
$20,000 is not a small amount for us. I am just wondering how we can protect our basic interest. The only way I can think is to pay the tax and get everything legal and formal.
Is it a normal practice in this industry? If yes, seems I don’t have choice but just follow..
