The idea of free trade is everyone do their best; it can be in term of technology, skill, cost..... China, India... etc are well known for thier low cost and reasonable quality. US cusotmers has all their right not to go to Walmart.

本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛If US residents themselves are soo keen to keep US jobs and products made in America; then you would very soon see department stores tell their customers all their goods and products are made in America. Actually, I went to a New Balance shop and they actually label some of their shoes Made in America. But obviously, this is no the case. They want cheap stuffs; especially during this financial hard time. Do you think most of US residents would pay 200% more to buy a jeans that is 100% made in America? So even if US government put 1000% tax on all goods that made in China and India. Walmart would look for their cheap goods from somewhere else. If US government decide to put 1000% tax on all non made in US goods, then you would see the inflation jump to 30% next month.

And no one force US residents to buy a new LCD TV or a new iPhone? They can put their money in their saving accounts.

It is what their own people want! Chinese or Indian didn't put a gun on their head to force them to buy instead to save!

And you think Obama didn't know where the problem come from. It is all politics and he has to do it to show US citizen, he cares and he did whatever he can to help them.

If Obama ask US residents if they want to buy Made in USA good, 99.999% would say "YES". But if Obama keep on asking if they are willing to pay 300% more on the same item. I would like to see the answer.更多精彩文章及讨论,请光临枫下论坛 rolia.net

    • This is a problem that is almost impossible to fix. The only real solution is protectionism, tell all the companies that if you want to sell your products and services here, you must hire workers and produce here.
Otherwise, all the jobs will just continue to migrate to China, India and other places where workers are paid 5% of American wages and have access to the same technologies. It simply make no sense for companies to produce anything in America and other high cost countries unless they are forced to do so.

        • that's why I say solving the global economic imbalance is mission impossible. And the damage on the US economy and its standard of living is huge. No country can live on borrowed money forever.
          • "No country can live on borrowed money forever", you are right to the point! Only US can save herself. Control Spending and start saving. It would be painful process! Just like if you earn 100,K a year and you own a million dollars.
What is the best way to solve probem, definitely not pointing finger to China and India.

I borrow a lot of money to buy because the goods are so cheap so I buy a lot. This is what Obama tried to tell the rest of the world.
