Fleeing driver killed by police

A man who police say fled an impaired driving checkpoint in Brockville on Friday night was shot and killed by police.
The province's Special Investigations Unit said in a release yesterday that OPP from the Leeds County detachment were conducting a stop check on a Highway 401 off-ramp. At about 11 p.m., the officers stopped a pickup truck and spoke with its driver.
The driver fled the scene and police chased him for about 10 kilometres north on Hwy. 29.
About 20 kilometres northwest of Brockville, police tried to box the truck in and it collided with police cruisers. After an "interaction" with the driver, the man tried to flee again and his truck hit an officer.
Two officers shot at the man. He was hit by at least one bullet and pronounced dead at the scene.
Two officers were treated in hospital for minor injuries.
The identity of the victim has not been released.
