The Ministry requires a start up period so not all services will be available immediately.
The computer systems require a period of time for restart, data input and testing. Until our computer systems are available, the Ministry will only be able to provide limited services to our customers. The Ministry expects computer system availability during the week of May 21, 2002.
What services will be provided while the computer system is being restarted?
A variety of services will be available even though our computer systems are unavailable, for example:
Driver Examination:
Call 416-325-8580 or 1-888-570-6110 to rebook a road test appointment that was missed due to the unavailability of driver examination services during the strike
Limited delivery of some road tests that are scheduled once services have resumed. (Call ahead to confirm an appointment.)
Confirming any previously booked road test
Knowledge and vision tests for senior driver required to attend a group education session
Knowledge and vision tests for classified licences (upgrade only)
Receiving medical updates/reports
Receiving surrendered driver's licences
General public inquiries
Sale of handbooks
Vehicle Registration:
Plate Renewal (one year only)
Trip Permit
Replace Sticker
Original Registration
Transfer of used vehicle - Dealer and some private
Plate attachment/replacement/termination
Data Changes - address, make, model etc.
Vehicle Status changes
Own Choice Plate gift certificate
Payment of NSF Debt
Temporary IRP credentials
Carrier Licensing:
Load broker certificates
Single trip and special for hire operating authorities permits
Oversize/Overweight single trip permits
Motor Vehicle Inspection Station products
Acceptance of applications for carrier-related permits
Responding to customer enquiries and providing general information

Booking or delivery of any new road tests
Out of province exchanges
Temporary Driver Licences other than for passing a successful road test
Knowledge and vision tests (e.g. G1 and M1 licences) other than for senior drivers required to attend a group education session and classified upgrades
Replacement drivers' licences
Driver licence renewals
Stand-bys for road tests
Data Changes (e.g. name, sex, date of birth, voluntary downgrade, height etc.)
Senior driver group education sessions
Demerit point interviews
Driver Abstracts
Vehicle Transactions:
Transfer of used vehicle
Used Vehicle Information Package (UVIP)
Plate Renewal (two years)
IRP Credentials
Replacement of Vehicle Permits
Carrier Transactions:
CVOR certificates
CVOR abstracts
