本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛My current employer is a healthcare company. Our IT team has been hired to develop its in-house project. Not the project is almost done. In my eyes, our team is no longer needed and will be dumped as the company's sales report comes out.

The next board meeting of our company will be held in September. I think our team will be downsized after that meeting. I am ready to go at any time. But I don't want to resign because 1) My currect salary is good and I don't think a new employer cant match it; 2) 'd rather be laid off so that I can get some severance pay, even 2 weeks's severance pay is OK. 3) Since the work load is not heavy. why don't I make the best use of this time to learn something new? A muture programmer should not panic if he faces the possibility of losing his job. He/she should know how to pretect him/herself and use boss's time to learn some new skills.

By the way, a programmer should know his own value. His value exists as he is needed. If he is no longer needed, he will be dumped like trash.
