L is a lot better than TN.
You could apply GC.
Your spouse will be allowed to apply EAD for working in the US legally. TD is not.
As a Canadian citizen, you don't need a visa, means you don't need to goto a US embassy or consulate.
You need a status which can be easilly obtained at the border of entry.
The only limit is, if you apply L1B, you will have three years on your I94 at the border of entry then you can renew it get two more years, that's it, no more, unless you leave the US for more than a year working for the same company, then reapply all over again.
If L1A, you have seven years total.
You also need pretty thick docs for that, two exactly same copies.
I suggest you (your company) hire an attoney to do that for you.
Mine was very good.
