Then the most painful period came after he took off. We used emails as our main communication form before he got the job. He sent me lots of them, from public library first and then from his laptop computer after he had his own phone line connected. From his emails I knew it was so hard to start a new life in a totally different country. About one and a half month later after his landing, he got a programmer position offer in a company called GeneralCom. I was so proud of him and our whole family was so happy when we heard that. From then on, he called me so often that the average phone bill for him was 200 to 300 canadian dollars, once reached more than 400. He missed me so much that sometimes he even could not fall in sleep during the whole night, and many times he told me that he had thought about going back to China just for being with me. We talked about our future, about how much we missed each other, and I was easily in tears. We exchanged emails, letters, and sometimes newly pictured photoes as well. Oct.9, 2000, it was my birthday, and he gave me a surprise by asking several friends of him in Guangzhou to give me flowers and presents for him at this day. When a friend of him in Toronto went back to China on vacation, he asked him to bring presents for me. And there were lots of such things he did for me.
As times went by, both of us could not stand being separate any more. I couldn't even concentrate myself on my study in Zhongshan University because of missing him. He told me that the application procedure would take about half a year or more for me to come here if he went back to China and married me. He suggested that I could continue my education in Canada, and this kind of student application would only take about 2 or 3 months for me to come here. I discussed this with my parents and relatives and they all supported this choice and by this way my Jim and I could get together soon, and I could get very advanced education as well. So I submitted my application forms for student visa in late March 2001, and it was approved less than 3 month later. During this peroid of time, he asked 3 weeks vacation to visit me, from April 2 to May 1. He told me that he would die if he did not. And April 29, 2001, just before he returned back to Toronto, he made his proposal.
I arrived at Toronto airport in July 20, 2001. Finally, after one whole year, from June 2000 to July 2001, we were together again. We celebrated this excitting moment in a restaurent in Chinatown. The following days were quite busy. I needed to settle down first, then impoved my English listenning and speaking as much as I can, and then prepare our wedding. My Jim helped me so much that I didn't feel any hardness and inconvenience in those days. I like Canada very much, and I love Jim very much, now I live in this country with this person, I think I am the luckiest girl in this world.
