Previously there were two levels of net income ($39,000 and $48,750) that could apply to repayment. Now:
The benefit repayment threshold is at one level, $48,750 of net income with a repayment rate of 30%—the maximum repayment is limited to 30% for a person with a net income in excess of $48,750.
Claimants are exempt from benefit repayment (clawback) if they have received less than a week of regular or fishing EI benefits in the last 10 taxation years.
Claimants who receive maternity, parental and sickness benefits will not have to repay those benefits. This will ensure that parents who stay home with their newborn/newly adopted children or workers who are too sick to work are not penalized.
Important note: The Canada Customs and Revenue Agency (formerly Revenue Canada) will automatically review claimants’ 2000 income tax returns with respect to the new benefit repayment rules and issue any necessary refunds.更多精彩文章及讨论,请光临枫下论坛 rolia.net
