Life in states is very different from region to region too. It will be hard to generalize the benifit sand disadvantages of moving to the states. Industrial Canada has data shown that in 1997 Ontario ranked 35th in 60 states/provinces in north american while Alberta ranked 17th. If you are in Toronto or Ottawa, I guess you probably have a life above average standard of living in North American(I assume you have an average hi-tech job). So if the goal to go to states is for better money, you may have to go to North CA, Boston region or those hi-tech hot region. If you just don't like the lifestyle of where you are living, you can move around and find the city which will make you call it home.
