suggestion based on my case

day1: Get TN status , then if you have time，get SSN (Social Security Number, search in rolia.net for detail). But SSN is option, you can get it when you landed in States.
day2: Give notice to your boss. and booking flight ticket (might not get good deal)
2 weeks later: fly to your state.

US:
day 1:
9am or 10am: go to SSN office, apply SSN (if you didn't get it above), get a letter from officer (saying your case is processing), need 4-6 weeks to get SSN if arroved. but it's good enough for now.

11am: go to the bank, show them you TN, passport and SSN letter, tell them you will get the SSN # later, (I did this in Citi bank). Once the account opened, deposit money, and ask the check book (it maybe free in most case with certain condition).
1pm: after lunch, if you didn't get apartment setup, get local newspaper/rental magazine, starting looking for apartment (you should do some research in Toronto), it might take day or 2. but better settle it down before you go to the new office. You might need show them your employment letter and new bank statement.

    • 当天可拿到TN如果不出差错的话. 开车到美加边境. 顺便申请SSN. SSN 需要量4个星期左右. 不过你可过一个星期打电话问SSN号码是否有了. 然后到SSN Office打印出号码. 所以 3 ~4星期较好. -tenthcup(一般般); 2007-9-27 (#3958817@0)
