You need the following documents:
1. Your ownership and vehicle registration slip;
2. Your current driving license;
3. Letter of Compliance from vehicle manufacturer (for vehicle safety and EPA standard);
4. Lien release form (if you have auto finance or lease);
And once proceeded, you will get the following documents for vehicle registration in local DMA:
1. NonResident Personal Vehicle Importation (Customs Form 7501);
2. Declaration Form (Form HS-7);
3. US EPA Engine Declaration Form (EPA Form 3520-21);
In Peace Bridge, Door #1 is for TN application, Door #2 is for car importation (Customs). Customs Officer usually only checks "Letter of Compliance" and driving license.
At local DMA, to apply vehicle registration, your vehicle needs to be examed for EPA standard and you need to hand in all documents from customs. However, different states may have different policies.
