I need an MS Windows / wireless guru to discuss a connection sharing / bridging issue! Anyone familiar with Toronto Hydro's free wireless over the city core is also welcome!

With Toronto Hydro offering free (1st 6 months) wireless service all over the city, there is a concern of having an office computer that connects both to the company network AND the free (and likely insecure) wireless network. Is there any MS Windows local policy or registry setting to allow ONLY one connection at ANY given time? -- meaning when the computer is connected to the company network, the other connection will never be enabled, and vice versa. If you force one connection, the other will be automatically dropped.

Also, how is Hydro securing their wireless networks?? Anybody knows?

Thanks!!

    • You just need to enable Firewall (the one comes with XP SP2 is good enough) on the interface connected to outside, that should be able to block unsolicited incoming traffic, including attacks.
      • Firewall may not be enough for us, especially when it comes to control outgoing traffic also.
Is this what your company is doing to handle the issue? How many employees do you have and are they handling sensitive data? Feel free to PM me if you need to talk privately. Thanks for your comments!!
