First of all, from a tax perspective, you and your spouse will probablly pay more. Because New York State has quite high state income tax (, plus local tax (if you live inside New York City). US also have very high payroll tax (namly Social Security and Medicare), which almost doubles what you will pay in Canada for CPP and EI. A lot of people never put that into their consideration.
New York's (New York City and nearby areas including New Jersey) housing price is very high. Rent is also quite high too. If you are making C$70K in Canada (especially in Montreal where the cost of living is even lower than Toronto), making U$75 in New York is for sure lower your standard of living. And in most cases, job in NYC is very stressful. The employer expects a lot from you. In comparison, Canada is much more laid back.
Of course, NYC definitely has a lot of opportunities. If that's what you looking for, then money/standard of living is not an issue.
