TD waterhouse is the ONLY Canadian brokerage house that will accept NEW CLIENTS already living in the US (47 states as of now). If your existing broker (the one you had before moving to U.S.) is willing to trade in your existing account, this is fine. But if he isn't, TDW is the only alternative.
TDW has agreements in place with 47 US states so that you can manage your account if you live in one of these. As far as I know, without these agreements its an SEC violation for a broker to sell Canadian mutual funds / stocks / other financial products to you.
You don't have to go to a branch office in Canada to open such an account. Have a local (US) TDW branch office take your information and fax it to TDW Canada, give TDW Canada their contact information so that your identity could be confirmed.
