I would say that it's reasonable to expect 100k (on contract) if you are a seasoned IT professional with decent experience in Canada, marketable skill sets, and an agency that charges normal rates.

70k on contractor is about 50-60k for FT. It does seem low, but again it all depends how good you are.

I do not think so. I know a guy who work for 5w contract ( Fortune 500 company ). Even you get a 8W contract, the agent take 25%. What gives?

I know the guy take 5w for a 6-month contract after agent took off the xx%.
