Don't believe the hearsay, 50k in Toronto is 120k in Ca? Yeah right!

From my own experience, certain things are more affordable in the BA. They have cheaper gas, lower income tax, no GST, just to name a few. Overall, the cost of living is considerably higher, especially if you want to buy a house, but there is no way that 50k in Toronto is the same as 120k in BA.

Don’t take my word for it, just take a look at this report by U.S. Department of Labor and also the salary survey from monster.com and you will get an idea. http://www.bls.gov/oes/current/oes_7360.htm

Assuming you are in IT, if you are a highly skilled contractor who makes 130k by yourself, then you can expect 150k-$200k. If you and your wife make 65k each, then it’s reasonable to expect 80-90k. BTW, I have never heard of 100% or 260% year end bonus, not even during the peak of dot com days.         不过和温哥华比到是绝配，温哥华的房价和当地的收入水平相比也是不可理喻的。

        本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛所以当别人(此君不见任何特异之处，只是当年找不到工作(?)在美国多读了一个本科一个硕士)“谦虚”地用自身为例子纠正我对美国是“如何贫穷”的印象的时候，我当时是同样的震惊。而且他还举了加拿大国内也有这样的例子，因为260%的人就是来自加拿大的，此加拿大君还相当不满说比在多伦多的时候收入还不怎么样。

        需要强调的是，年收入13w折成美元在美国也可以排得上号了(头25%?)。大多数“美国人”如果有这样的收入也会移民加拿大。为什么去美国的确是一个很好的问题。人生梦想(美签/绿卡/美籍)？虚荣心(挣得钱再多国内的亲戚朋友也认定你在一个乡下地方)？事业？身体不好(去阳光州)？

        正如我的一个同学多少年前二十多岁在国内有房(独立屋?)有车(雅阁)，觉得人生不能就这样完了，现在还在加拿大自己买的小耗子里面奋斗。我和爱人觉得活得太滋润了所以要到美国，当初也是国内“活腻”了top x%到加拿大的。留在加拿大，可以请佣人干活，在美国至少头几年就要自己洗碗了。为了这个年收入比加拿大少5w也干。

        加州的平均收入是高，但谈到具体行业并不一定。IT也是有行业之分的，文中君的过100%分红恰恰是在.com泡沫爆破后美国衰退那几年的事情(.com兴盛的时候谁在乎你年终奖啊，个个做梦期权一夜之间百万乃至千万富翁)。女怕嫁错郎，男怕入错行。这是一生的大事。

        人没有多大胆就没有多高产。举目四望，俺们的收入还不好意思提。大伙提的都是股市里面亏了多少w或赚了多少w。ChinaSmile不是有个调查说加拿大华人的收入两边高中间低吗，3x/hr以上的竟然还是大头。新年了，面包会有的。我对国内的师弟说，不要读什么二学位了，计算机就是你这辈子最容易找工作能够赚最多钱的行业。磨练自己的技术积累经验，钱自己回来敲门的。更多精彩文章及讨论，请光临枫下论坛 rolia.net
