Outline
The TDSB tutoring program consists of university/college students working as
tutors within the Toronto public school system.?The majority of tutors work in
high schools with grade 9 students, with occasional exceptions.?They tutor
students in math, English and science courses. Tutoring sessions are supervised
by a teacher, and may be on a one-on-one basis or with a group of students.?
Responsibilities
Only one (1) tutor is assigned per school.?Thus s/he must be able to work
independently in an academic environment with students requiring additional help
in core subjects.?Familiarity with high-school level English, math and science
(preferably all 3) courses is indispensable.?The tutor is also responsible for
keeping monthly time sheets and working directly with supervising teachers and
principals.?Furthermore, the Toronto District School Board requires all
volunteers/employees working in a school setting to provide an official criminal
record check clearance as well as proof of a Tuberculosis (TB) test before
starting work. The fee for the criminal record check will be reimbursed on the
first pay cheque.
Payment
Tutors at this level are paid $10 per hour for a maximum of 100 hours.?The
maximum allowable salary is $1000.?Tutors are paid on a monthly basis as
Service Providers.?
