REPORTS TO: BIL STRUCEL, MANAGER, JNUP HARDWARE

LOCATION: TORONTO

JOB PURPOSE
Responsible for the design of new or revised products, equipment, and installations, utilising processes based on established engineering principles to meet requirements. Involved with designs of varying complexity.

KEY JOB FUNCTIONS

MANAGEMENT SKILLS
· Keeping track of progress on all assigned tasks.
· Able to respond to developmental problems and implement workarounds while maintaining budget/schedule/requirements compliance/quality.
· Short-term planning of all assigned tasks.
· Verifying that all assigned work has been completed accurately.
· Providing accurate estimates of labor and material costs for current technology.
· Able to complete tasks on time and within budget.

TECHNICAL SKILLS
· Formulating or contributing to the development of new designs.
· Reviewing the work of peers and more junior designers for accuracy, feasibility and technical content.
· Implementing designs using good design practice and applicable standards and guidelines.
· Devising and running tests to verify functionality, and identifying and solving problems.
· Being proficient in the skills and current with the technology of the discipline.
· Reviewing any applicable specifications, standards, rules, etc. and ensuring that the appropriate actions resulting from this review have been taken.
· Interface with project management teams in the planning and control of the hardware engineering components of multi-discipline endeavors.
· Capable of performing all aspects of electronic development through the utilization of digital and analog circuit design.
· Intimately familiar with programmable device development (FPGA, CPLD, etc).
· Proficient in the development of embedded software development as part of the creation of device drivers and programs used for test verification.
· Making efficient re-use of existing designs.
· Identify customer requirements and translate into realizable and quality designs.
· Good knowledge with respect to electronic packaging.
· Prepare quality and complete design documentation.
· Perform design verifications through engineering analysis and test verifications.
· Interface with Production Engineering to produce a released product.
· Able to travel to work sites anywhere in the world.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS
· Excellent verbal skills to allow clear communication without ambiguity.
· Well developed writing skills to allow documents, work packages, etc. to be prepared in a clear and concise format with sufficient information so that further clarification is not required.
· The ability to follow directions and work instructions, and to use good judgement in the performance of assigned work.
· The ability to effectively present pros and cons for various courses of action.

SOFT SKILLS
· Working harmoniously in a team environment while maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the job and in relations with others.
· Willing to learn.
· Able to fully complete tasks.

APTITUDE
· Locating and researching source information for design activities, extracting the pertinent data, and using it to provide recommendations,
· Contributing effectively to decisions made either individually or in a team environment.
