here is an analogy that may be appropriate to your comments. a "Mr. Right" is a cane and your own career -- or your own financial strength -- is your leg.

a cane can help you stand more firmly and walk faster, but it can never replace your leg. and it is always an alien attachment to your body -- a piece of accessory. as an alien attachment it can get lost, broken, or stolen. depending on the health and strength of your leg a missing cane may put you in different situations.
if your leg is healthy and strong then you have the luxury of choosing whether to keep or not to keep the cane. and you keep it just for fun and pleasure. it will be an enjoyable companion.
if your leg is not healthy and not strong then you become dependable on the cane -- you are at its mercy. now the cane is no longer a companion but the dominant force of your life. you cannot live without it. you have just beome its slave.

who would prefer a cane to his/her own leg?
