Job Title:

Performance Engineer



Business Unit Description: Echannels Technology and Shared Services provides technology solutions and stewardship for self-serve channels, integrated customer services and shared services for the CIBC and Amicus brands. We have an underlying focus on delivering solutions that can handle high volumes with high availability and performance to delight the customer.



Key Accountabilities / Activities: As a member of the eChannel Enterprise Customer Information Technology team, the Consultant II will contribute to the design, development and testing of the ICIF (Integrated Customer Information File) and other applications, with an emphasis in memory and performance optimization. The Performance Engineer will be accountable for the stress, scalability and performance testing of individual and end-to-end application functions. Currently utilized technologies and products include: Java/J2EE, Web Services, XML, SOAP, Struts, Log4J, SQL, BEA WebLogic, BEA WebLogic Integration, Oracle, MQ Series, JMS, Trillium, and Optimizit.



Key competencies include: Java/J2EE, Web Services, Database (SQL), messaging (MQ Series, JMS, HTTP), J2EE test harnesses and testing methodologies with an emphasis on continually proving and ensuring optimal application performance and memory consumption characteristics. Strong documentation and presentation skills are also crucial.



The applicant should have demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced technical development environment. The successful candidate will be self-motivated and self-directed whenever new knowledge is required for the job; possess a logical mind that guides a disciplined approach in their work; and enjoy working and collaborating with a senior team of Developers. Responsibilities Include: - Interacts with the development and architecture team to define test plan to ensure that business requirements are met. - Analyzes system specifications and design. Prepares the detailed Test Plan and Test Criteria for the testing effort. -

· Writes test cases to test the requirements for both positive and negative scenarios for both function-level and end-to-end performance testing. -

· Works independently or with the Development Team to characterize and improve the behaviour of software as it is being developed (e.g., response time optimization, I/O tuning, caching, etc.) -

· Designs and create tools and test harnesses for the exploration and measurement of performance and scalability of applications. -

· Facilitates architecture/design reviews to pro-actively ensure optimal system performance (e.g., make recommendations with regards to caching, connection pooling, EJB's versus JDO's, etc.).

· Maintains strategic knowledge of current and future trends in testing technology through independent research, by participating in knowledge sharing internal and external organizations and by actively working with third party vendors to evaluate their product offerings. - Mentors test leads and acts as the technology expert in the area of J2EE testing.

· Provides regular status reports. - Makes recommendations on corrective action if application performance objectives are in jeopardy. - Provides production support in problem analysis and resolution.



· Requirements: Business, Relational and Technical Skills: - Demonstrated experience in testing methodologies and application development lifecycles. - Demonstrated experience in Performance Testing including planning and execution as well as capturing reporting, fixing, and tracking defects. - Ability to analyze/interpret technical data. - Ability to identify/resolve system bottlenecks. - Ability to identify potential limitations in software architectures. - Ability to write clear and concise technical documents - Ability to re-configure test hardware/software from scratch - At least 4 years of experience as Senior Java Developer/Performance Engineer. - Expert knowledge required in: J2EE, Web Services, XML, XML Beans, SOAP, JSP's, STRUTS, EJB's, SQL, Weblogic, Oracle, MQ Series, JMS and Unix (Solaris). - Proficiency with WebLogic configuration and tuning and writing J2EE test harnesses. - Proficiency in both Manual and Automated testing. - Knowledge of Mercury Interactive automation tools like Test Director, Win Runner, and Load Runner would be an asset. - Ability to effectively manage multiple activities of varying complexity while under time constraints. - Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and also perform as part of a team. - Ability to work well under pressure to meet deadlines. - Good analytical and communication skills.



Communication Skills: - Create organized and professional reports with clear results and recommendations. - Present recommendations in a logical, articulate and influencing manner. - Manage dependencies with technology partners. - Brainstorm with team members during working sessions. - Plan and facilitate meetings and working sessions. Work Conditions: - Work and attend numerous meetings in a variety of office locations. - Must be able to manage the schedules of several concurrent project activities and priorities. - May be required to work outside normal working days/hours.
