This is a permanent position
Key Responsibilities:
1. Support, administer and maintain the Oracle databases within the decision support infrastructure (composed of data warehouses and data marts) for all environments (development, test and production)
2. Responsible for defining, maintaining and rehearsing processes/procedures for day-to-day operations including database backups and data archiving
3. UNIX scripting
4. On going efforts to tune DB performance (ETL efficiency, report execution etc.)
5. Diagnose and address database problems as required
6. Software installation/configuration, upgrades and patch upgrades
7. Disk management - allocating system storage and planning future storage requirements for the database
8. Providing and implementing optimum physical database design for data warehousing environments (e.g., tablespace design, table partitioning, summary tables, materialized views, functional indexes etc.)
9. Schema management for objects such as tables, views, indexes etc.
10. User account and system security management
11. Controlling and monitoring user access to the database
12. Responsible for developing and supporting system implementation notices for SLA impacted database changes
13. Participate in 24-hour support/on-call rotations (3rd level support)
Required Skills:
1. Must have a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or equivalent post-secondary education
2. OCP / OCM designation, not mandatory but strongly preferred
3. Minimum 3 years experience administering Oracle DBs (TB+) in data warehousing environments
4. Experience with data modeling/administration tools (e.g., Erwin, Power Designer, Toad)
5. Proficient in Oracle 9i Enterprise Edition
6. Experience with other Oracle editions considered an asset (e.g., 8i,10g)
7. Working knowledge of Oracle RAC
8. Knowledge of administering snowflake and star database schemas
9. Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of data warehousing concepts
10. Strong working knowledge of reading and writing PL-SQL
11. Excellent communication skills
12. Experience administering dimensional-model based data stores for MicroStrategy or E.Piphany applications would be an asset
13. Experience with RMAN; working knowledge of Veritas NetBackup considered an asset
14. Working knowledge of SQL Server 2000 considered an asset
15. Strong working knowledge of Unix/Linux; Knowledge of Solaris 8/9 considered an asset
