Retail Accountant
Location – Burlington
Our company is an international retail company specializing in garment alterations with 80 stores across Canada and 4 stores in the USA. We are looking for someone who will join our team as the Retail Accountant.
POSITION SUMMARY
As a national service provider that operates in a family environment where work is valued and input to the decision making process in encouraged. You consider yourself a self starter who takes initiative and requires little direction. Adaptable to change and willing to help wherever is required.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Qualifications:
- Level 4 CGA or equivalent business experience
- Excellent computer skills, quick learner
Responsibilities:
- Accounts Payable
1. Provide guidance to Accounts Payable clerk
2. Backup position during holidays and illness
3. AP reconciliation, process improvements
- Bank Accounts/Liaison (includes cash, credit, debit)
1. Download/Copy bank information and format for journal entry processing
2. Upload and post all bank deposits, service charges, miscellaneous items
3. Investigate discrepancies, miscellaneous charges, missing deposits
4. Setup new bank accounts, credit/debit card terminals, process changes
5. Reconcile bank accounts,
6. Follow-up on missing deposits. Keep CFO informed on all missing deposits
- All Store Accounting excluding payroll and COGS
- All rent/lease accounting and follow-up on unusual charges. Ensure rents are paid on time
- Liaison with landlords for sales reporting, insurance, year end, setting up new stores, etc.
- Liaison with Insurance company regarding policy changes (cars, locations), certificate requirements. All journal entries and amortizations related to insurance.
- Balance Sheet Analysis, Reconciliation and Amortization – Cash, prepaids, rent accounts, accounts payable, accrued liabilities (non payroll)
- Budgeting
Model development and maintenance (store level)
- Month-End
- Year-End
Software Experience
- ACCESS EXCEL -Advanced skills
- GREAT PLAINS
-Or extensive exposure to similar integrated financial packages
