I have the following contract for 12 months in Alberta looking for a
Data/ETL Analyst
Description of Services:
The Information Services Branch requires the services of one
intermediate Data/ETL Analyst to participate in the continuing development and
support of the Corporate Data Warehouse.
The Vendor’s Resource proposed to supply the services associated with
this opportunity require experience and skills in:
•Understanding complex data relationships
•Integrating similar data from different source systems
•Understanding of the importance of data quality, data integrity and
data security
•Data analysis and evaluation
•Business analysis
•Database analysis, design, construction and testing
•Development and maintenance of ETL processes
•Problem solving/troubleshooting
•Technical writing/documentation
•Dealing with clients and team members to resolve issues
Responsibilities will be related to incorporating new data into the CDW
by means of designing, building and testing new ETL
processes/procedures and making changes to existing ETL processes/procedures to ensure
complete, accurate and current data in the CDW. Depending on project
assignment, responsibilities may include:
•Communicating with clients, business analysts, application support
analysts, and Information Reporting staff
•Information requirements/needs gathering
•Understanding the source systems, business rules, data elements
•Providing recommendations as to alternatives to meet the requirements
•Performing data analysis to evaluate data being added to the data
warehouse
•Creating CDW data models - the entity relationship diagrams and the
table and column definitions
•Creating database objects (such as tables, views, stored procedures)
•Addressing data integration issues and providing input for potential
solutions
•Identifying data quality issues by creating scripts to verify the
quality of data in the operational systems
•Developing data transformation rules
•Developing data loading, cleansing and verification procedures
•Writing code to extract, transform, correlate, integrate, load and
verify data being incorporated into the data warehouse
•Testing the procedures and verifying results
•Performing impact analysis to determine the impact of proposed changes
to existing ETL processes
•Adding and/or enhancing existing ETL procedures to meet changes in the
business needs
•Documenting operational procedures, data transformations and
methodologies
•Increasing the quantity and improving the quality of data warehouse
documentation; particularly in regard to being more useful to information
end users
•Evaluating/testing new software or new versions of software, as
required
•Enhancing and maintaining the data acquisition guidelines, both
content and document
•Serving as a resource to Data Evaluation and Integration Team Leader
and team members
