How to teach a boy to be religious

本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛Little Billy came into the kitchen where his mother
was making dinner. His birthday was coming up and he
thought this was a good time to tell his mother what
he wanted.

"Mom, I want a bike for my birthday."

Little Billy was a bit of a troublemaker. He had
gotten into trouble at school and at home. Billy's
mother asked him if he thought he deserved to get a
bike for his birthday. Little Billy, of course,
thought he did. Billy's mother, being a religious
woman, wanted him to reflect on his behavior over the
last year and write a letter to God and tell him why
he deserved a bike for his birthday.

Little Billy stomped up the steps to his room and sat
down to write God a letter.

LETTER 1:

Dear God,

I have been a very good boy this year and I would like
a bike for my birthday. I want a red one.

Your friend, Billy

Billy knew this wasn't true. He had not been a very
good boy this year, so he tore up the letter and
started
over.

LETTER 2:

Dear God,
This is your friend Billy. I have been a pretty good
boy this year, and I would like a red bike for my
birthday.
Thank you,
Billy

Billy knew this
wasn't true either. He tore up the
letter and started again.

LETTER 3:
Dear God,
I have been an OK boy this year and I would really
like a red bike for my birthday.
Billy

Billy knew he could not send this letter to God
either, so he wrote another letter.

LETTER 4:
Dear God,
I know I haven't been a good boy this year. I am
very sorry. I will be a good boy if you just send me a
red bike for my birthday.
Thank you, Billy

Billy knew, even if it was true, this letter was not
going to get him a bike. By now, Billy was very upset.
He went downstairs and told his mother he wanted to go
to church. Billy's mother thought her plan had worked
because Billy looked very sad.

"Just be home in time for dinner," his mother said.

Billy walked down the street to the church and up to
the altar. He looked around to see if
anyone was
there. He picked up a statue of the Virgin Mary. He
slipped it under his shirt and ran out of the church,
down the street, into his house, and up to his
room.
He shut the door to his room and sat down with a piece
of paper and a pen. Billy began to write his letter to
God.

LETTER 5:
I'VE GOT YOUR MAMA. IF YOU WANT TO SEE HER AGAIN, SEND
THE BIKE.

Signed,

      • This is so funny and meaningful, -- how easy it is to go to the opposite!
      • You are wrong. According to Bible, the only way to go to Heaven is by trusting Jesus Christ as a Savior, not by the man's good work.
          • Here is the answer from my pastor(For my other question, but it is relevant to yours)
本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛The Gentile nations before Christ came were judged were saved or condemned according to how they followed their God-given conscience (Rom.2:14,15). Obviously, Jesus had not died yet, so there was no gospel about Christ's death as a payment for their sin. But God did not allow 4000 years worth of Gentiles to be born just to die and go to hell. They had to follow the light that God puts in every man's heart that there is one true God (Rom.1:19; John 1:9), a judgment after death (Job 19:29 - Job the oldest book in the Bible), and they had to seek him, trust in him, and live according to what they knew to be right. As will know, both the Jews and Chinese of Old testament times offered animal sacrifices to God for sin when they failed to follow their conscience. We also know that God accepted these sacrifices until the perfect sacrifice would come. Regardless of what precisely God required of them, He will only judge a person according to the knowledge he gives them, regardless if they are Jews or Gentiles. (Rom 2:6-11)

Today, if someone in a 3rd-world country will live by the knowledge God naturally gives them, if they follow that light, God will give them the greater light of the gospel (II Cor. 4:3,4), which what they must obey to be saved today (see Acts 17:29-31). The judgment is worse now because in this age, man can be saved as a free gift, and thus if they reject it, will suffer a worse punishment. (There are degrees of judgment - Matt. 23:14)

The reason the Lord has not returned yet for us is II Pet. 3:9 - God wants more people to be saved by his grace as a free gift now. Once he returns, all those left behind in the tribulation period will have to die to be saved. Again, his patience proves that it is their choice, otherwise, his patience would be cruelty.
