Software System Engineer for Markham Area

Scope of Responsibilities/Expectations:
Actively participate and, where appropriate, provide effective leadership
as a software/system engineering professional within the scope of Company's
Digital Public Safety Wireless Network Development programs.

Responsibilities may include:
• Analysis of system, subsystem and/or software requirements and
development of suitable design options;
• Preparation of Engineering Feasibility Assessments, Engineering Effort
Estimates and/or Engineering Work Plans and Schedules;
• Technical Risk Mitigation through research, modeling, simulation and/or
prototyping.
• Preparation of high-level and/or low-level system, subsystem and/or
software design specifications;
• Design, implementation, test and maintenance of software assets in
accordance with a defined development lifecycle processes;
• Design, implementation and execution of detailed system, subsystem and/or
software test strategies, configurations, procedures and/or scripts;
• Participation in system, subsystem and/or software integration cycles
including analysis of results;
• Participation in system and/or subsystem certification cycles including
collection and analysis of results;
• Participation in Field and/or Customer support activities as required;
• Contribute to the maintenance and enhancement of engineering tools and
environment;
• Occasional Travel will be required

Specific Knowledge/Skills:
• Graduate of an accredited university degree program in Electrical,
Computer, Software or Systems Engineering;
• Minimum of 5 years direct experience in an advanced software/system
engineering environment (telecommunications application development is an
asset);
• Excellent English language communication skills (verbal, written and
presentation);
• Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and schedule individual and group
work assignments;
• Demonstrated ability to lead other technical staff in completing work
assignments in accordance with defined quality objectives and deadlines;
• Demonstrated ability to create test cases, test plans and test strategy
based on domain knowledge or system requirements (field test experience is
an asset);
• Working knowledge of one or more of the following programming
languages/environments is an asset: C, C++, JAVA;
• Experience planning, implementing and maintaining a fully automated
software test environment is an asset, with working knowledge of scripting
/ programming / debugging languages and environments: Perl, Tcl/Expect,
Microsoft Script Control;
• Demonstrated ability to work in WINDOWS and UNIX operating environments;
• Working knowledge of network architectures, protocols, services and
programming (IP, UDP, TCP, IGMP, DHCP, DNS, RADIUS, IPsec, VPN, Ethernet,
LAN/WAN switches, etc.);
• Working knowledge of network analysis tools (EtherPeek, AiroPeek,
Ethereal, etc.) and testing tools (Smartbits, Chariot, etc.);
• Working knowledge of network management protocols and tools (SNMP, HP
OpenView, etc.);
• Working knowledge of digital wireless communications, RF propagation, and
802.11 or other broadband wireless technologies and protocols is an asset;
• Demonstrated ability to analyze software development process performance
and identify/execute improvement initiatives;
• Working knowledge of CMM and CMMi Engineering Process Maturity principles
is an asset;
• Eligibility for licensing by PEO is an asset.
