Major Responsibilities:
The employee in this position will assist a Dentist or Dental Hygienist in providing preventive dental and/or clinical services in Toronto Public Health Dental programs
Prepare the office by laying out and preparing dental instruments, equipment, drugs, medicants and dental filling materials, as requested; assist in taking, processing and mounting x-rays
Responsible for recording the clinician's findings in the dental records, maintaining appointment register, patient lists, activity reports, dental records and files; answer telephone and take messages and assist in the collection of data
Instruct patients in oral hygiene and post operative care
Maintain a tidy, clean office, darkroom and sterilization area, check and maintain supplies and laundry
Carry out dental aseptic procedures, maintain dental equipment, clean and identify dentures
Assist the clinician at the chairside and provide physical and psychological patient management as needed, this includes assisting in the preparation of CLC residents for dental services
May be requested to work staggered hours
Key Qualifications:
Graduate of Dental Assistant Course, or approved equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
Experience in the use and maintenance of dental instruments and equipment.
Knowledge and experience in dental asepsis procedures.
Experience in conducting dental health presentations to children and seniors.
Must also have:
Ability to perform four-handed dentistry.
Possession of HARP Certificate is an asset.
Good interpersonal skills and proficiency in patient management.
Demonstrated ability to work in teams.
Knowledge of Public Health dental programs.
Ability to work anywhere in the City.
Status: Temporary (Approximately 12 months)
