Thank you for the advice. I do have Win98se in my computer. But It is only for entertainment. I do my Java programming exercises only in Windows 2000 Professional... ...(Pls come in)

However, I'm now only in primary stage of Java study. Win2K professional is sufficient for me right now. I think I'm going to move to server side programing some time later, like JSP, serverlet, websphere etc. That means I'll have to use server version of Windows 2000, right? Would Win2k server be enough for me? Windows 2000 ADVANCED server does sound better for me. But I'm afraid it is also too much for me, as well as for my computer (CerelonII 824 + 256 mb SDRAM)
As for Windows NT 4, since I've got Windows 2000 server and advanced server in hand, why bother downgrading to NT4? I'm really enjoying Windows 2000 now. It is rock stable and it never gives me blue screens.

  • 工作学习 / IT杂谈 / Hello, Jabber! Need your advice: Which windows platform is best for java study and developement: Windows 2000 server or Advanced server?
I'm currently using Windows 2000 Professional. I know one day I'll need to use the server version. But I don't know which one is better. I have both in hand.
    • I think, Winnt should be the best one for your need.
    • Either is OK
. As a programmer, we should be proficient in many machines. If you just do exercises, Windows 95, 98, NT server, workstation, 2000 me, 2000 Pro, ... does not make big differences. However, if you practice on server programming, I suggest you throw away 98 and 95.

        • Even on Windows NT workstation, you can do server programming.
