The scope of LEAD matters.

Does this lead role set the vision, communicate with stakeholders, develop strategic plan, or is it this role merely oversees the completion and delivery? How much percentage of this role is managing humans vs. providing technical leadership?

Apart from that, many companies move people into technical managerial roles without an official promotion. At the place I work, we periodically rotate the senior people to lead different projects, simply because we see a technical lead as more of a function than a position, though this obviously isn't necessarily true at other shops.

Having these clarified, your husband should ask himself if this lead role aligns with his priority at this very stage of life. What's driving him if he was to take it, is it the feeling of accomplishment? is it pride and glory? is it the potential salary increase? He also has to weigh the stress, potential conflicts when dealing with human, added workload, his own interest, the potential career opportunities etc. Either way, he should ask for the compensation, whether it is an increase or a fatter bonus.

One thing caught my eyes though, why is it your husband's boss's boss asked instead of his direct boss? The chain of command normally is respected both way. If I were your husband, I would most likely speak to my direct boss and sound out their opinion / advise.更多精彩文章及讨论,请光临枫下论坛 rolia.net

    老公的老板的老板找到老公,让他lead一个项目,当时进这个公司只是申请了一个senior的技术职位,最开始就是想纯做点技术活,工资少点少管事和管人轻松点,现在又要管这些,公司也没有说升职加薪啥的,像这种情况怎么弄好呢?ROLIA上卧虎藏龙,麻烦高人们给给建议,谢谢

    • 如果只是Lead一个项目,可以在完成后提出升职提薪,如果是升职,可以直接提出同时加薪,如果只想轻松,也可以直接说希望把本职做到最好,其他没有精力 +1

    • 在当前公司的话,可能需要先干出点业绩,再通过performance review谈升职和加薪,比较好。如果是跳槽,则应该一开始就谈好条件,起点高一点比较好。 +1

      首先公司让你 “管人管事”,到底有没有给足够的 authority? 不是简单 report 关系而是真能招人裁人还有足够 budget? 否则公司一通外包给你分上一堆 $10/h 的 + 政治正确招进来不能干活还不能开的,最后就是你一人负重前行,老板岁月静好。

      另外,老板的老板直接找人 ---- 本身就有点 tricky...

      当仁不让。职位越高,权力越大,管理的钱和人越多。做manager和director的时候,别人跟你打招呼的方式都不一样。你说的话有人听,做事更顺利,很多email都是秒回。韩信将兵,多多益善。只要能力够,尽管往上冲。不要把工资待遇摆在前几位。多结交同等职位的人,一起喝咖啡吃饭,找到同盟者,互相帮助。你孩子以后找coop,或许就是一句话的事儿。小丈夫不可一日无钱,大丈夫不可一日无权。当官有时候比赚钱、找女人更过瘾。
