I’d suggest that registered accounts like TFSA, RRSP, LIRA, and RESP would be the better options than a non registered cash account. More rigorous regulations on them. And they can’t be loaned out.
But, as we know DRs is Best. That said, I don’t plan to sell my DRS shares ever. I may sell a TFSA but even that I’m not sure after watching this video on the effectiveness of the dividend reinvestment plan that made millionaires out of Coca Cola buyers on the ground floor.
I unfortunately have large GME shares stuck in RRSP and LIRA which I cannot DRS. Canadian laws do not allow us to Register them in our name. I really hope that our banks and brokers survive and this does not become an issue. Here is my thoughts in MAOSS and banks/brokers going insolvent during. It’s not the banks and brokers that have to come up with the MOASS money. It’s the institutions that shorted the stock. Then the insurance. Then our own CIPF.. So the likelihood that our banks and brokers go bankrupt is likely much lower than other countries. That is however, my own opinion and NFA 🍁🦍
question: Can I ask you what's up with the "I will never sell" mentality? I understand Gamestop being a solid company, but if we're all right here, there is without a doubt a short squeeze that is going to take place. Meaning the GME share price will be astronomically higher than what the company is actually worth. Why wouldn't you want to sell all your shares in this event and buy back in later?
answer1:
It's evident of all the corruption taking place in the stock market by all the governing bodies. We need an overhaul. If it hits Andromeda, that overhaul is likely going to happen. And guess who just developed an exchange where none of this bullshit is possible? This is the ideal scenario for all retail and regular citizens alike. The only way this can happen is if the short hedge funds can't close their positions. They can't close if no one is selling (all) their shares.
Edit TA;DR : squeeze needs to be so fucking big, heads will roll.
answer 2:
That’s a very interesting question and position for me to contemplate. Given that at the moment GameStop is using 78Million shares, and looking to expand to a billion with the vote, I theorize that there could be multiple stock splits during MOASS. This will bring the value down as it continues to rise, possibly multiple times. This combines with the possibility of multiple dividends at the same time. Obviously speculation, but with Ryan Cohen at the helm, I know he’s planned everything out.
As for selling, my idea is to consider the value and sell a TFSA share before making a decision to sell, and once price goes down simply improve my share position.
I will not sell a DRS share because they are truly the only confirmed real shares at the moment. So if things are looking good value wise and I know I’ll be able to do directed philanthropy, DRSing even the shares from my restricted accounts can be considered. Obviously massive tax hits. I can’t do that now because being retired, I simply wouldn’t be able to afford that type of hit right now.
However, I’m so sick of the corruption, I’m feeling very strong in my conviction to simply hold and let the system burn. I want a better system for my grandkids. I’ve always lived a humble life. I asked my son the other day what type of vehicle he would want if money wasn’t an object. He said he likes his Jeep so doesn’t need anything else. Humble kid. We are all comfortable for sure, but have never been flashy. My friends have joked that I could be a Costco model. 🤣 Big decisions to be made, but I really see this going to the “be your own bank” given what is going on, and I’ll be just fine. That all said, everyone is in different positions and I absolutely understand the need to sell for some. We are all unique, just like Warren Icahn.
I have been slaved by this corrupted financial system my entire life, and I don't want to be slaved by it any longer, and don't want current financial system to slave my kids, nor anyone's kids any longer, nor any future generations.
To me, GME movement/revolution is once in a time opportunity, an opportunity to go with heart to take actions to rebel, to fight, to destroy current corrupted financial system without violence, without killings. It's not something that I should act from fear, from greed, I don't want to attach those types of energy to my action.
